Idiocy and Iraqi New Year

The folks at LGF are at it again with their fanatical troop-worship, thanking them with almost tearful eyes for bringing joy into Iraq (heh..) and for the first New Years Party in Baghdad in years. (If the link is broken or directs you to something else, just copy the address and paste it into a new window.)

I asked myself though: How ignorant and/or mentally impaired do you have to be in order to NOT see that this was the first one since the illegal invasion actually started?

BAGHDAD – It was something not seen in Baghdad since before the 2003 invasion — people publicly welcoming a new year with singing, dancing and general revelry

The ballrooms of two landmark hotels — the Palestine and the Sheraton — were full of people for the first New Year’s Eve celebrations after four years of violence that has bloodied Iraq.

Interesting. Up to 2003 people were still celebrating New Years, then SOMETHING must have happened *scratches head*. Wait, it must have been those sneaky Islamofascistcommieliberalnazienvironmentalist insurgents! It’s entirely their fault, and definitely nothing else in the whole wide world! The poor angels of the coalition forces just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time!
But .. How were people celebrating in 2003? And what was (and still is) their main concern? Read this article. Something clearly doesn’t add up here.

Sarcasm aside, one should ask himself how welcome the American troops in Iraq are. Maybe it’s obvious once you look at how a few of them have been spreading their love to the Iraqi people that supposedly owe them everything and stuff..
If you’re still not convinced, what if China decided to “liberate” the US of A and free it from the lying and tyrannical government that doesn’t do what its people want? Would they still be welcome there, despite everything?

For the sake of simplicity: Iraqis. Don’t. Want. Americans. On. Their. Soil.

What the supposedly perfect troops have succeeded in doing is toppling the only guy who managed to maintain some stability in this already artificial country, regardless of how evil he was. And to add insult to injury, they dissolved the existing Iraqi army, probably _the_ biggest mistake they could ever do. Those troops will do almost anything for decent wages, including collaborating with the coalition forces, and would probably have helped prevent this whole mess. But the country had already gone from bad to worse, courtesy of Chimpy and Co.

Happy new Year, American crusaders troops. Iraq really loves you. As for the sheep squad at Little Green Footballs, thanks for the laughs. Glad to be a thorn in your sides, either here or at LGF Watch.

Yea, well, I know LGF isn’t alone. There’s a whole section of the rightophere that feels compelled to pat ourselves on the back for every indication that we’re putting out the fire that we started.

I’m glad I’m not chief of staff inna Merica. It’s a real no-win situation. Damned if they stay, damned if they pull out.

Tghis website sucks. Screw you Islamic barabarians. Muhhamed (May He Burn in Hell) Messenger of Lucifer, Dog Hater, genocidal warlord and Pedophile would be considered in insane. I spit on you Muslims!

And we Muslims spit on you.
Tsk, what manners some people have..

Would Mohammed spit back? No, he wouldn’t, neither should you if your goal is to represent muslims in a good light.

Ok, you’re right about that. I guess the stupidity of this individual’s statement humiliates him enough, without me having to add anything.
    Guess I was just angry..

The thing is though, many people expect Muslims to keep their heads bowed down in shame, and accept all the insults we’re getting, without even letting out a peep of protest. The question here is where turning-the-other-cheek crosses the border of abandoning your dignity..

I beg to differ: such spittings as the above can hardly be called debate. If you value your religion/history/culture you won’t stoop to this level.

I could say “looks like the Prophet got into conflicts with other Arabs. Sometimes he would do acts (like torture and indescriminate killings and polygamy) that are – by today’s standards – unacceptable. But were “normal” at the day and time. It looks like “some” Muslims today who try to emulate his ways, find excuses for being unacceptably violent. In other words:
some of the ideas of the Prophet may – in the wrong heads – turn explosive [insert bomb-in-turban-cartoon here] . I, as a modern Westerner, find it difficult to respect such jihadist belief.

Now , I basically said the same thing, are you gonna get medieval on my infidel ass ? :-)

I’m not going medieval on anybody :) And I admit that it’d be better not to stoop to this level, but sometimes a stupid remark deserves a stupid response.
However I disagree with the part about torture and indiscriminate killings. These are things repeated by anti-Islamic website who probably have nothing better to do than sit around and say: “Hmm, what can we accuse Islam of now? Ah yes, [action xyz] seems evil enough, lets smear them with it”. Other than that you wouldn’t have idiots claiming that the Quran advocates rape.
I’d be interested though in where you heard that though. I’m not blaming you for anything.

Yes, maybe I’m just regurgitating some hearsay, let’s see what I can find: According to Wikipedia, after the Battle of Khaybar , the Prophet ” asked [Kinana ibn al-Rabi] to locate the tribe’s treasure, al-Rabi denied knowing where it was. (snip). Muhammad ordered Al-Zubayr to torture al-Rabi until he revealed the location of the rest[of the treasure], then handed him to Muhammad ibn Maslamah, whose brother had died in the battle, to be beheaded.”

Torturing and beheading a surrendered enemy is objectionable BY TODAY’S STANDARDS as is, of course, the story of A’isha (whether she was 6 or 9 or 12) but, and this is my point, we shouldn’t judge ppl from another era by our standards (neither should we live by theirs).

Doing so (applying modern standards to historical events or vice versa) is …hmm…. counter-productive in my humble opinion.

I have serious problems with Muslims who judge present situations by 1400-old standards, and even more if they want me to abide by them.

The life of the Prophet gets more fascinating the more I learn. He was a truly remarkable historical figure.
